No matter if you live in New York or Florida, a code of ethics is needed in the education profession for many
reasons. First and far most, educators are role models of our future. Most often students often hold their teachers
on a higher pedestal than their caregivers. How often have you heard, “You’re
not doing it right… That’s not the way my teacher does it”?
Students
trust that their teachers will do the “right thing”. They are role models. Therefore,
I also believe educators need to be aware of their bias. This will help
allow a more culturally diverse classroom and foster tolerant young adults.
These ethics need to be high standards that we, as teachers, model all
the time.
